The Titanic

I read this article yesterday through the internet. I think everyone knows about the ship named Titanic, but not everyone discover about the history.

The Titanic started production in March. Titanic was included with many facilities that make people enjoyed. The size and luxurious make the ship as a legend even before the first voyage.

The Titanic was officially launched from Southampton, England on April 10 1912 carrying more than 2,200 passengers and crews. The ship was provided with only 16 lifeboats with capacity of 1,708.

The Titanic sailed first to Cherbourg, France to take additional passengers and continue to Queenstown,Ireland. The first 3 days of the voyage they did not faced any problem and also on the fourth day. On 14 April, the Titanic received 5 ice warnings but Captain Edward Smith decided not to slow down and continue on 21 knots (25mph). At 11.50 pm, Freed fleet spotted an iceberg and warned the bridge. First Officer William Murdoch ordered the ship to turn hard to port and the engine room was signaled to reverse direction. The ship did move slightly but could not avoid the iceberg. The ship crashed with the iceberg causing compartments to begin filling with water.

25 minutes later, the ship officer ordered to launch the lifeboat. Instead of 68 passengers, the first lifeboat was carried only 28 passengers. When the last boat was launched, there were more than 1,500 people left on the ship.

Around 2.10 pm the rear of ship was raised because the front side of the ship was fileed with water cause the ship to split into two. The ship slowly sunk. More than 1500 peoples were lost in the ocean.

many attempts have been made to find the wreck, until 1985, an expedition led by Robert Ballard and Jean-luis to discover the famous ship
